history
> founding principles The Venture Consortium was founded in 1973 as a means for students to find educational, enriching, hands-on experiences outside the classroom. College Venture, the first program of the Venture Consortium, still exists today to support and aid students who are pursuing time away from school. > today
In the last three decades, Venture has grown to become an organization comprised of highly respected liberal arts colleges and universities, and it continues to develop innovative programs that complement the liberal arts curriculum. By participating in one of Venture's programs, students can explore their values, new career options and enhance their educational experience with regards to issues of social responsibility. > what we do
Through the College Venture program, Venture helps students broaden their educational experience by assisting those who choose to extend their learning beyond their campus. In order to do so, Venture reaches out to prospective
employers and maintains employers relations throughout the
year. Venture has successfully placed hundreds of students
in all types of short-term positions while they take time
off from school, and as a result, has aided numerous employers
in finding the short-term help that their organization needs.
The Urban Education Semester places participants in a classroom with a host teacher so that students can witness successful public education in action, while taking a semester of graduate school classes at Bank Street College of Education. In keeping with our commitment to fostering social awareness among students Venture has also developed The Engaged Life. This program has been conceived as a series of on-campus and online discussions and workshops for students interested in public interest work and living a socially responsible life. > resources
To assist graduating seniors and recent graduates with their transition out of school, Venture compiles and posts relevant and up-to-date job listings. Additionally, Venture acts as a resource for all students contemplating non-profit and socially responsible careers, and routinely highlights student stories, issues, concerns, opportunities and points to consider in the features section of its website. > dialogues and the future Recognizing the wealth of ideas and resources that exist not only in the Consortium but also in the larger community, Venture values the rich dialogue that can occur when constituencies with issues of common concern come together. Consortial discussions are dynamic and ongoing, and lead to the creation of programs and resources that respond to changing educational needs. |
