<< back to Dialogues november 2000 > liberal arts, service, and learning
In November of 2000 the Venture Consortium sponsored "The Liberal Arts, Service, and Learning," a conference hosted by the Ware Institute for Community and Public Service at Franklin & Marshall College. Students, faculty, staff and administrators from Venture member schools participated in a two-day series of discussions. We recognized the enormous value in bringing together students from the Venture schools to reflect on the broader implications of their work in community-based programs at their schools and through Venture. As one student said in his conference evaluation, "For the first time, I had to explain my context and my rationale for the community service I am doing with other students who werent from Brown." Staff from our member institutions observed similar questions and challenges emerging among service programs at liberal arts. (back to top) |
