why take a leave?

Many of us know that taking time off before, during, or after college is a unique choice. Maybe fewer realize just how supportive deans, faculty, and other students are about taking time off. Imagine taking a break from school - to slow down, to explore academic and co-curricular interests, or to face the curve balls that life throws your way - indeed, to discover the opportunities for learning outside the classroom and growth away from the campus environment.

Reasons vary for taking time off - they are a product of choice or circumstance and they are grounded in personal, intellectual, or perhaps career-oriented goals. Many students take time off to engage in social causes that they then can link to work back on campus. We at Venture encourage you to get support in understanding your reasons for taking time off, articulating your goals, and planning for your leave and retry to school. You can get support from various individuals at centers/ offices on campus. Meeting with your College Venture Program Coordinator and other individuals on your campus will help to make your ultimate decisions more clear, the logistics of leaving campus easier, the financial planning seem less daunting, and each step a fully-embraced strategy for getting the most out of your leavetaking experience.
