Hall, Colin and Lieber, Ron, "Taking Time Off: Inspiring Stories of Students Who Enjoyed Successful Breaks for College and How You Can Plan Your Own," Farrar, Straus and Giroux, 1996. Excellent resource guide in the back, with wonderful stories from students who have already taken time off.

Landes, Michael, "The Back Door Guide to Short Term Adventures ," Ten Speed Press, 2002. This book is filled with internships, seasonal jobs, volunteer opportunities, work abroad, and many other exraordinary experienes.

Nelson, Janice, "Handbook for Teaching English in Mexico and Central America," Writers Club Press, 2000. Just about everything you need to know about teaching in Mexico and Central America, by someone who’s done it. It also includes practical teaching solutions to help teachers survive their initial lessons a Central American classroom.
