college venture > getting started If you're thinking about taking time off, you're in the right place. Here's a list of things to get you started with your leavetaking plans: • Register with College Venture - Students interested in taking time off through the College Venture program start the process with the registration form. The form is not an application, and will not be forwarded to any potential employer. It serves two main purposes:
• Search our job bank for jobs - The College Venture job bank is located in your College Venture Program Coordinator's office in paper form and electronically. As you browse, you'll notice that the job descriptions are missing the organizations' names and contact information. This information is forwarded on request to you from Venture's central office once we receive this form. As you browse, jot down the job number (located in the upper right hand corner of the description) of each job that interests you, and use the online form on the job bank pages to submit these numbers to us. We will then send the full job description to you via email. • Meet with your College Venture Program Coordinator - Your Coordinator will help you think through why you want to take time off and determine your goals for your time away. S/he wil also be able to help you with writing resumes, cover letters and finding other work-related resources. • Mention in your cover letters that you heard about the position through Venture! • Visit and sign up for pauseforum.org so that you can connect with other leavetakers. Read their stories and advice and post your own. • Keep in touch! Let us know if you have decided to take time off and what you have decided to do with it. Email us anytime.
