AmeriCorps (www.americorps.org) Americorps is a network of national service programs that engage more than 50,000 Americans each year in intensive service to meet critical needs in education, public safety, health, and the environment. AmeriCorps members serve through more than 2,100 nonprofits, public agencies, and faith-based organizations. Created in 1993, AmeriCorps is part of the Corporation for National and Community Service, which also oversees Senior Corps and Learn and Serve America. Together these programs engage more than 2 million Americans of all ages and backgrounds in service each year. Amigos de las Américas (AMIGOS) (www.amigoslink.org) AMIGOS creates opportunities for young people to excel in leadership roles promoting public health, education and community development. Founded in 1965, AMIGOS is a non-profit organization that provides exceptional leadership training and volunteer service opportunities in the United States and Latin America. AMIGOS' youth-led programs and strong partnerships with international development, non-profit, and government agencies distinguishes it from other international experiences. BUNAC (www.bunac.org) Because of a reciprocal relationship between these countries and the US, BUNAC was established to help with finding short-term paid work opportunities abroad especially for college students in the US, United Kingdom, Argentina, Australia, Canada, Costa Rica, France, Germany, Ghana, Holland, Ireland, Malta, New Zealand, Poland, South Africa, Spain, Sweden. The Council for International and Educational Exchange (www.CIEE.org) Study abroad and work abroad with CIEE. CIEE provides quality programs and services for individuals, employers, communities and educational institutions. Let us help you choose your international experience. Global Routes Global Routes, a tax-exempt non-profit, is a non-governmental, non-sectarian organization committed to strengthening our global community through voluntary work overseas. To this end, we design foreign exchange programs based on community service, bringing people with different world views together. Idealist (www.idealist.org) An extremely comprehensive site for people interested in working in the non-profit sector. The Latin America Volunteer Connection (www.latinamericaconnection.org/htm/programs_teaching_english.htm) The Latin American Volunteer Connection works with an Ecuadorian non-profit organization to provide English classes in rural schools in the Amazon rainforest, and an international non-profit to provide English classes in five urban community centers in impoverished neighborhoods of Ecuadors capitol city, Quito. Volunteers work with Ecuador teachers and coordinators. INTERNS FOR PEACE (IFP) (http://mpdn.org/interns.htm) IFP was established in 1976 in Israel. IFP was the first and remains the only program with the purpose of training community development peace workers, in Israel and now in Palestine and Gaza/West Bank, Jordan and Egypt; who initiate cooperative inter-communal action that unites all people. Transitions Abroad Magazine (www.transitionsabroad.com) resource for work, study, travel and living abroad. They dedicate an entire magazine issue to work opportunities abroad. Volunteers for Peace (www.vfp.org) Over 2400 affordable ($200-$400) short-term international voluntary service programs in 90 countries. VFP is a Vermont non-profit 501 (c) (3) membership corporation which has been coordinating International Workcamps since 1982. VFP is a member of the Coordinating Committee for International Voluntary Service (CCIVS) at UNESCO and works in cooperation with Service Civil International (SCI), the Alliance of European Voluntary Service Organizations, and the International Youth Action for Peace (YAP). The history of International Voluntary Service dates back more than 80 years. Our office staff, board and thousands of volunteers in the field help facilitate this program. In 2002, we exchanged over 1300 volunteers.
